Redman, a former student at Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary (formerly known as 102nd St. School) spoke to our Joyner students about the many contributions that African Americans made to the transportation industry. Garrett Augustus Morgan, inventor of the traffic signal; Edmond Berger, inventor of the spark plug; Charles Brooks, who gave us the street sweeper; Mary Anderson, inventor of the windshield wiper; and Richard Spikes who invented the automatic gear shift and turn signals. Redman and his organization, "The Watts Life Car Club" brought a generous donation of over four thousand  books to Joyner students who welcome the addition to their home libraries. Redman and his organization encouraged boys and girls to stay in school and build on their talents and creativity. We at Joyner thank Redman and the many wonderful members of his organization for sharing not only a fine selection of show cars but the generosity of giving back to our community.
